Africa's reputation for harbouring some of the world's deadliest snakes is no myth. Maranata is home to dozens of species including the reputable black mamba, puff adder, boom slang, python, and various spitting cobras in the top rankings of very dangerous reptiles.

However unless one actively goes looking for them the chances of encountering a deadly snake are slim. Thankfully most will stay out of man's way but it is advisable to walk with a stick, both for defense and to announces one's arrival by tapping the ground or clearing brush. Walking sticks are also handy in clearing spider webs strung between the bush.

Unlike traditional tourist game reserves where one is always behind air-conditioned glass, and therefore not getting a real taste of Africa, on Maranata, one is truly in the wild being that the most dangerous wild life to encounter will be Africa's reptiles.
